Short Bio

Pamela Kogen is a mixed media artist working out of a studio in the Marinship section of Sausalito.

Statement

Living by the bay and sailing year round in this magnificent landscape, is a deep influence on my work. The grandeur of the Headlands, being buffeted by the always evolving weather and wind, is a humbling reminder of my powerlessness and the constancy of change. My work seeks to capture, abstractly, the shifts I observe and sense. I often incorporate textiles into drawings and paintings for their history and cultural reference. I’m drawn to “working” textiles and most recently have been up-cycling “dead” sails in my work- an attempt to find utility in the piles of unwanted sails lying in sail lofts and boat yards in the neighborhood around my studio. These panels feature Ticking fabric- historically used to cover pillows and mattresses, as well as sections of discarded, well used Dacron sail material. Wavering line, shifting planes, this series of abstract panels is a reflection of our watery landscape.
